Yung Bredda ready to excite at GenXS Road March

The annual soca season locally will reach its peak on April 27 with the GenXS Road March featuring Kes and the Band and soca star Yung Bredda in an exclusive performance on the Smirnoff Kingdom of the Sun x GenXS Sound Stage.

Observer Online caught up with Yung Bredda while he was on the island last weekend and he said that soca fans are in for a treat.

“You can expect a hardcore performance, excitement and vibes,” said Yung Bredda.

Yung Bredda, who is also a disc jock, says he was introduced to Jamaican music at an early age.

“The Jamaican culture is very fascinating, and I play dancehall music as well. The parties in Jamaica that I have been to are really good,” said the soca artiste who enjoys a plate of rice and peas and chicken whenever he visits.

Yung Bredda, who has collaborated with Jamaican artistes Marcy Chin and D’Yani, is appreciative of the fact that soca music has been making inroads locally.

“Soca had its origins in Trinidad and Tobago and its part of the Caribbean culture. Making soca have more legs in Jamaica is part of my goal and it has been growing over the years,’ he said.

The 25-year-old attributes his success to being humble, positive and being consistent. He said his dream collaboration would be to work with Masicka, Dexta Daps, Vybz Kartel or Jah Vinci.

“Jah Vinci has some good gyal tunes and I represent for the girls,” he shared.

Yung Bredda says he has new music coming including an afrobeat song called Rollercoaster.

As the 2025 carnival season unfolds, all eyes are on GenXS’ ‘Big Four’ headline events, poised to reshape the soca experience this year. With a curated mix of soca’s most influential artistes, strategic collaborations, and an immersive celebration of culture, the “Kingdom of the Sun” themed Carnival band is set to amplify excitement among revelers locally, regionally, and internationally.

The official announcement about the lineup of events was made at the GenXS Carnival Season Launch on Saturday, March 22, at the Hyundai Showroom in Kingston. Partnering with Smirnoff, KFC, and Hyundai, GenXs set the stage for its most thrilling season yet, featuring artistes dominating the regional circuit.

“After touching Trinidad Carnival and seeing who’s really moving the people, it was clear who needed to be part of this season,” said Tagyei Belinfante, Director of GenXS. “We handpicked artistes who bring not just hits, but presence, energy, and crowd power. We’ve built the kind of season we’d want to experience ourselves.”

The excitement kicks off on April 3 with the Montego Bay Night Run Afterparty, where GenXS powers the official afterparty, bringing Carnival energy to the west.

Headlining the night is Nailah Blackman, performing her 2025 standout hit Forever. Known for her distinctive voice and dynamic stage presence, this marks a rare performance for audiences in western Jamaica, adding to the event’s exclusivity.

On April 26, the energy will intensify with GenXS Immortals J’ouvert, the largest J’ouvert in Jamaica, renowned for its high-energy, paint-splattered, and powder-filled revelry from sunrise. Taking the stage aboard one of the GenXS J’ouvert trucks is Bunji Garlin, delivering his 2025 hits ‘Carry It ‘and ‘Thousand’.

“Immortals is always an experience, but with Bunji this year, it’s going to be next level,” said Mala Morrison, GenXS Band Leader and Director. “We’ve designed this season to give masqueraders more—more music, more action, more memory-making moments. This isn’t just a road experience. This is Carnival done right.”

Beyond the music, GenXS Carnival 2025 is built on premium partnerships that elevate the experience for masqueraders. On the road, revellers will be served by an elite mix of top-shelf brands, including Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Rum Stripe, Casamigos, and Don Julio.
