Strong women, strong men: One powerful November

Strong women, strong men: One powerful November

NOVEMBER stands out as one of the most significant months for gender awareness, as it shines a spotlight on the health, well-being, and equality of both men and women. Throughout the month, global campaigns and awareness days encourage open conversations about topics often left unspoken — from men’s physical and mental health to women’s safety and empowerment.

It’s a time dedicated to breaking stigmas, promoting early health interventions, and fostering mutual understanding between the sexes. As we enter November, we’re reminded that achieving true well-being and equality requires collective awareness, compassion, and action from everyone.

Here’s a list of November awareness days.

‘Movember’ (November 1-30): A month-long campaign encouraging men to grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, especially prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

International Men’s Day (November 19): Celebrates positive male role models and raises awareness about men’s health, gender equality, and the well-being of boys and men.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25): A global day to raise awareness of and combat all forms of violence against women and girls, emphasising prevention and policy change.

World Prematurity Day (November 17): Raises awareness of premature births and supports mothers and families affected by pre-term labour and newborn health complications.

World Children’s Day (November 20): To promote togetherness and awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

Parent and Youth Month (November 1-30): To celebrate the achievements of parents, strengthen the home-school relationship and promote effective parenting skills, and to recognise and empower young people and highlight their potential and contributions to society.
