Donation to be collected at Reggae Boyz, Curacao football match

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Donations in support of Hurricane Melissa relief and recovery will be collected at the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualification match between the Reggae Boyz and Curaçao on November 18 at the National Stadium in Kingston.

The Jamaica Red Cross is partnering with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport on the collection drive.

“This is one way that the Reggae Boyz are assisting with this effort,” said Portfolio Minister Olivia Grange at a special media briefing held at Jamaica House in Kingston on Monday.

She said that discussions continue with other national teams on how they wish to help.

Minister Grange informed that the president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) will attend the football match.

Turning to the role of the faith community, the minister announced the appointment of Bishop Herro Blair as national coordinator of the Religious and Faith-Based Organisations team, to lead engagement and coordinate relief efforts across all denominations, including Rastafarians, Revivalists, Muslims, Hindus, Baha’i, and others.

She expressed appreciation to the public for their continued support and encouraged everyone to play a part in the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts.

“We will get over this… We will recover and rebuild better than before,” Grange said.
