‘Mother Moon’ love song by Fyah George generating major buzz

‘When love is at a distance, the moon gets a mission’.

That’s the message behind veteran reggae singer Fyah George’s latest release, Mother Moon.

Released on January 1, 2026 on Trowers Zamar Records, marking the label’s official debut, the love song has been getting heavy rotation on FM radio and is generating a buzz among reggae and dancehall fans seeking uplifting and meaningful music.

Trowers Zamar Records founder Paulette Trowers, a songwriter already widely known in Jamaica for her literacy work through CHEETAH Toys, penned the lyrics to the song, the inspiration of which, she explained, is two-fold.

“First, it speaks to long-distance love, especially when that distance feels strained and unresolved. When there is no physical connection left to reach for, what remains is belief. Belief in God, yes, but also faith in the moon — the only one in our solar system — already exerting measurable power over the earth,” Trowers told Observer Online.

“If it can move tides, why could it not carry a message to the one you love? Though the lyrics reference a lover, the meaning is elastic, extending just as easily to a parent, child, or anyone held at a distance,” Trowers continued. “The second fold is the personification of ‘mother’ itself: protector, witness, constant. From her New Kingston balcony, the songwriter regularly photographs the moon, tracking sunrise, sunset, and nightfall, guided by a long-standing fascination with astrology, space, and nature.”

Fyah George, known for songs such as Kingston, Kingston and No More War, and for music rooted in reggae, gospel, and conscious expression, delivered the vocals for Mother Moon masterfully, his delivery restrained, confident and intimate, giving the impression that the song was written specifically for his voice.

“From I heard the song I just loved it, and it resonated with me, and I liked the vibes,” Fyah George said of the track. “Give God thanks I was the one who was asked to deliver [the vocals] for it.”

Musically, Mother Moon is grounded in excellence. Composition and master mixdown were handled by Nigel Burrell, a two-time Grammy-winning engineer known for his work with Toots and the Maytals.

The song was mastered by Chris Dailey, widely regarded as one of Jamaica’s leading mastering engineers today. Recording took place at Mixing Lab Recording Studio at 57 Burlington Avenue, Kingston 10, one of Jamaica’s most storied studios.

The song is already showing strong early traction, receiving multiple spins on Irie FM and earning Song of the Month on GT Reggae Radio, a global streaming platform reaching listeners in over 120 countries.

Whether the moon accepted the assignment is written not in words, but in the quiet pull of the song itself.
