West Indies under-19 through to Super Six
West Indies Under-19s advanced to the Super Six stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup after beating South Africa by 55 runs at the High Performance Oval, Windhoek, Namibia.
The West Indies batted first and piled up 234 in 47.5 overs with Man-of-the-match Zachary Carter hitting a splendid 114 runs from 109 balls, inclusive of 8 sixes and 8 fours at a strike rate of 109 per cent.
Carter was supported by Jonathan Van Lange with 29 runs and Joshua Dorne chipping in with 20 runs. JJ Bason bagged 5-23 and Jason Rowles took 2-44.
The West Indies lost their first wicket at 33-1 before Cater and Dorne steadied the innings, adding 82 runs before they were separated at 115. But then three wickets fell without any addition, losing Jewel Andrew and Shamar Apple on 115-4.
Carter went into overdrive, hitting a magnificent century and putting the West Indies in a decent position.
The West Indies bowling and catching were top-notch throughout as they tore through South Africa, bowling them out for 179 to win by 55 runs.
Shaquan Belle was on fire, the speedster taking 6-40 and was supported by Jakeen Pollard with 1-19 and Isra-El Morton with 1-27.
The West Indies are second in Group D with four points, winning two of their three group games to be second behind Afghanistan on six points, having won all three games. South Africa are third with two points and Tanzania pointless.
The West Indies will face Ireland on Sunday, January 25, in the second match of the Super Six stage.
