Inner Circle’s Bad Boys hits the platinum mark in the United States
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Thirty-nine years after it was first released, Bad Boys, the iconic hit song by Jamaican reggae band Inner Circle, has been certified platinum in the United States.
The certification issued by the Recording Industry Association of America commemorates sales and streaming equivalent exceeding 1 million units.
The song Bad Boys was first released in 1987 after it was included on the group’s album One Way. It was re-released in 1991 as a single in Norway, Finland and Sweden, where it topped the charts in Norway and Finland and reached #2 in Sweden.
In 1992, the song was again included on another Inner Circle album, Bad to the Bone, and it was re-released as a single in 1993, following the international success of the group’s mega hit Sweat (A-la-la-la-long).
Bad Boys was used as the opening theme to the American documentary TV show Cops, and later as the theme song of the 1995 American action comedy film Bad Boys and also featured in the film’s sequels.
In 1993, Bad Boys rose to #21 in Austria, #25 in Australia, #19 in Canada, #35 in Germany, #18 in Iceland, #26 in Ireland, #5 in New Zealand (where it has been certified gold).
On the other side of the Atlantic, the song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on Billboard’s Top 40 Mainstream and #58 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the song charted at #52, and has been certified silver.
