MECA gears up for big weekend with Nigy Boy, Serani
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A weekend packed with music, star power and celebration is set to unfold at Club MECA as the venue rolls out a two-night entertainment experience featuring some of Jamaica’s most talked-about acts.
The festivities begin Friday night with a performance from rising sensation Nigy Boy before dancehall hitmaker Serani takes centre stage on Saturday, which also coincides with his birthday celebrations.
For Serani, returning home to mark another year around the sun is a tradition he has no intention of breaking.
“Celebrating my birthday in Jamaica is something I’ve always done,” he said. “Mi fly dung fi celebrate with the people weh me move with. Just to be there with them is the greatest joy.”
The entertainer said there is a feeling that comes with returning to the island that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
“Before you even land, as soon as the plane gets close to the island, you start feeling the energy. You know, say you’re in your zone. It’s always a joy,” he shared.
That energy, he said, is exactly what patrons can expect when he steps onto the MECA stage on Saturday night.
“It’s going to be Big BBC vibes at MECA,” Serani said.
The weekend’s entertainment package comes at a time when both established and emerging acts continue to push Jamaican music to wider audiences, something Serani believes is reflected in the lineup.
“I’m performing on Saturday and Nigy is performing tonight, so you know MECA will be the place to be,” he said. “Nigy is super talented. Him have it. We’re pushing this music, dancehall music, to the world.”
Nigy Boy’s appearance tonight is expected to draw fans eager to see one of the industry’s fastest-rising talents, while Saturday’s event offers patrons the chance to celebrate alongside one of dancehall’s most recognisable voices.
With two generations of performers taking the stage across the weekend, MECA is positioning itself as a focal point for nightlife and entertainment as music lovers look for ways to kick off the summer season.
