Minster Sandra Brooks returns with Those Trials
The name Sandra Brooks was on the lips of the gospel music fraternity for several years. She racked up multiple popular worship songs, including Did You Stop to Pray This Morning, The Road is Rough, and The Answer.
But in recent years much hasn’t been heard from Brooks.
She makes a return to the scene with the inspiring Those Trials.
“I met in an accident and broke my ankle, so I wasn’t able to walk for some time. I also had medical issues, and I had to take some time off to recuperate,” Brooks told the Jamaica Observer last week.
Brooks, now an ordained minister, is back and ready to perform and work to spread the gospel.
“I’ve not been on the gospel scene since 2020, but now I am back, ready to perform and pray for those who need prayer. My new single, Those Trials was inspired by God through me. This song speaks about my life, some of the things that I have gone through, especially experiencing financial problems and different trials that I faced day today; treating people good and they turn their backs on you. Those Trials is a song that everyone can relate to. The trials that you go through they make you stronger and better,” Brooks shared.
Brooks, a former member of the popular Grace Thrillers gospel group, has had her fair share of setbacks in her career.
“The journey has been up and down. There were times that you had to face different challenges performing. I’ve had to put on shows myself and they didn’t turn out well. There were also times when you travelled overseas to perform and you face different obstacles such as unscrupulous promoters,” Brooks shared.
With Those Trials she is hoping to pick up where she left off musically.
She is scheduled to perform in Canada on May 3 alongside gospel acts Sebastian Braham and Petra Kaye, having been in Canada last June, where she received an award at a Women In Excellence conference through Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament for Humber River-Black Creek.
Her career in music began at age 12 after she became a born-again Christian. Originally from Whitfield Town, she sang in the youth choir at her church.
At the age of 16 she entered and finished as second runner-up in the Teen Star Search competition.
Impressed with her talent, she was scouted by the principals behind the Grace Thrillers and stayed with the group for four years.
She then embarked on her solo journey.
“My ministry has taken me to places I never imagined, including the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, and different countries across the Caribbean,” said Brooks.
To date, she has released three albums — Don’t Worry, The Answer, and Look to Jesus.
