Security guard charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, ammo
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A security guard has been arrested and charged following the seizure of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition during an investigation in Linstead, St Catherine on Monday, April 20.
He is 33-year-old Orlando Hunter, otherwise called “Roy” of McGrath Road, Ewarton in St Catherine. Hunter is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Police reports indicate that about 11:20 am, a team from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division’s (FNID) Special Response Unit was on an operation on King Street in Linstead when Hunter and another man were seen entering a vehicle. They were accosted; however, the other man managed to elude the police.
A search of the motorcar revealed one Springfield Armoury Hellcat 9mm pistol, two magazines and six 9mm rounds of ammunition.
The police said Hunter was charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney on Tuesday, April 21.
Director of FNID, Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe, is urging the second suspect to turn himself in immediately.
The investigation is ongoing.
