Long before their paths crossed on campus, Lea Sims already knew Jaylon Miskel by reputation, his name woven into casual dorm room chatter and passing stories shared by her roommate. One serendipitous meeting between the Americans was all it took to bridge the gap between a familiar name and a forever love.

How They Met

The first chapter of their romance began in September 2017 during Jaylon and Lea’s studies at Ball State University in Indiana. Thanks to a mutual friend’s endless praise, Lea’s curiosity was already piqued.

“She always talked about what a great friend he was, but to me, he was almost like a ghost: Always hearing about him, but never actually seeing him,” Lea shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

Her opportunity finally came on a quiet afternoon stroll back from campus, when a chance encounter brought the two face to face. “Jaylon introduced himself with a warm smile and the biggest hug, instantly making me feel comfortable. My first impression was that he was incredibly genuine while Jaylon remembers thinking I had such a warm, welcoming presence,” Lea recalled. “Neither of us could have imagined that what started as a simple introduction on a college campus would become the beginning of our forever.”

The initial spark was undeniable, but it was a strong foundation of trust that ultimately convinced Lea to take the leap in 2018.

“As we got to know each other, our respect, trust, and admiration continued to grow, making it clear that what we had was something special and worth pursuing,” Lea said.

The Proposal

Taking a chance on love yielded the ultimate reward. Early in the relationship, Lea knew Jaylon was the one — a realisation confirmed during a family trip when she uncharacteristically opened up to her mother about her feelings.

“Beyond his strength, loyalty, kindness, and genuine heart, Jaylon has always made me feel safe. From the very beginning, he felt like home, and that feeling has only grown stronger with time,” Lea said.

Then, what Lea thought was a surprise celebration for her grandmother turned out to be a life-changing moment. On March 22, 2025, Jaylon proposed.

“When we got to the venue, the doors were locked, which seemed odd. Once they finally opened, the room was dark, but I quickly realised all of our closest friends and family were there,” Lea said. “Then I looked across the room and saw Jaylon standing in front of a beautiful ‘Will You Marry Me?’ display surrounded by roses and candles. I instantly burst into tears. It was such a thoughtful, heartfelt moment, and I felt so loved.”

The Wedding

On May 15, 2026, surrounded by 75 of their loved ones, Lea and Jaylon celebrated their nuptials at Grand Palladium Resort & Spa, whose space was transformed and decorated by True Colors Events Jamaica and Londa72Designs.

Captivated by the magic of the island during a trip two years prior, Lea and Jaylon always held a special place in their hearts. For the couple, a destination celebration perfectly suited their reserved, laid-back personalities — offering a meaningful getaway with loved ones, rather than the rush of a stressful, single-day event.

Escorted up the aisle by her father Lee Sims, Lea looked breathtaking in a Galina Signature satin dress from David’s Bridal. To the strains of H.E.R.’s My Song, she made her way to Jaylon for a stirring ceremony guided by wedding officiant Maurice Kuyenkendoll.

The festivities transitioned into the reception at the same venue, at which guests showered the newly-weds with warm wishes. Following the traditional cake-cutting — a chocolate buttercream creation provided by the hotel — Lea and Jaylon shared their first dance as husband and wife to Part II (On the Run) by Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
