Brevett funeral for this Sunday
THE funeral service for Okine Brevett, son of Skatalites bass player Lloyd Brevett, is set for this Sunday, March 11.
The service of thanksgiving for the life of the 32-year-old will be held at the Andrews Memorial Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Hope Road in St Andrew, starting at 10:00 am. His body will be interred at the family plot in Red Ground, Negril, Westmoreland, following the service.
The younger Brevett was gunned down on February 25, hours after he accepted an award on behalf of his father from the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association, during their annual honour awards held at Emancipation Park in St Andrew as part of the activities in observance of Reggae Month.
In a statement, Lloyd Brevett and his wife Ruth note that they have tragically lost a shining star and the bedrock of their lives, whom they say was, “suddenly taken by dark clouds filled with the travesty of human greed and ignorance with malice aforethought”.
The elder Brevett continues, “Never did I expect that it would be I who would be asked to bear the sacrifice of you my son… In Zion, we will meet again, where you will be most welcomed by our generations, my musical peers and family who have gone ahead in the time and space”.
In lieu of flowers, the Brevett family has requested that donations be made to the Okine Brevett Skatalite8s Fund.
