Jay-5Flow puts spin on MACARENA_19235912
IT has been nearly 20 years since a novelty song named the Macarena took the world by storm. Deejay Jay-5Flow hopes to create a similar buzz with his single Dancehall Macarena.
Produced by the Hotbox Productions label, the song was released in May.
“When I first heard the ‘riddim’, it sounded like the original Macarena, so I came up with the idea of a dancing song. I asked the choreographer Betty Rox to come in studio with me, an’ I sang the hook and we conceptualised the dance at the same time and put everything together, an’ it shot!” Jay-5Flow exclaimed.
The Los Angeles resident (born Omar Craig Forsythe) has been around the music scene since the late 1990s when he performed on shows in Port Maria, Runaway Bay and his native Ocho Rios.
Jay-5Flow relocated to Los Angeles in 2003, and in recent times has toured the world with Spragga Benz and his Red Square Crew.
In addition to Dancehall Macarena, his latest releases include Shake It Señorita, Father God Protect Me, and Eva Clean.
