222 killed in traffic crashes since January 2016
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Transport is reporting that 222 people have been killed in 183 crashes across the island since the start of the year.
Data from the ministry show that fatalities have increased by four per cent when compared to a similar period last year.
However, overall crashes have decreased by eight per cent when compared with the corresponding period in 2015.
The statistics also revealed that men accounted for 84 per cent of the fatalities, while women accounted for 16 per cent.
It showed that the Westmoreland division recorded the highest number of fatalities, accounting for 36 per cent, while Kingston Central recorded the least amount, at one.
