KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — A total of 394 special-needs children were among the 39,129 primary school students, who sat today’s first day of the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).

The Student Assessment Unit of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, is reporting that special accommodations were made for these students.

These include providing large print for those with visual problems, prompters, preferential seating, extra time, scribes, readers, and writers. 

Eight students were accommodated to sit the examination at the Spanish Town Hospital and Bustamante Hospital for Children. All these students were given extra time.

They were monitored by officers from the Special Assessment Unit.

The two-day examination is being held at 1,090 centres across the island.

Education, Youth and Information Minister, Senator Ruel Reid, visited the Mona Primary in St Andrew this morning and offered words of encouragement to the students taking GSAT.
