73 killed in West Kingston

AP

Thursday, May 27, 2010

POLICE say at least 73 people have died as security forces hunt for Christopher 'Dudus' Coke who is wanted for extradition to the United States to face guns and drug trafficking charges.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds says all the deaths have occurred as police raided the Tivoli Gardens stronghold of Coke. Officials previously said that 44 civilians had died.

Minister of Information Daryl Vaz said today that officials are trying to identify the victims and that Government will launch independent investigations into all police actions.

Vaz has said it is unclear whether Coke is still in Jamaica.

CNN has an article on their website with alleged details of the affidavit.
Many people online have been blasting at ABC and others. Fact is I see a lot more details coming out about the actual extradition in foreign media than local. What's up with our media and digging for information. Are they not privileged to the same information?

you "sell outs" who fly to other countries and claim to have an interest in Jamaica.
We can all sit onthe fence and blame all who we think we should blame, but unless we wake up and put our pockets where our mouth is, it may be best if just shut the hell up!!. Bruce will go done, no doubt, but as infamous as he will go down,he will go down famous! for getting into Tivoli finally, PNP for 18 yrs+ did not, while Dudus got rich under dem. Who is really to be blame! 18+ years, Spn Twn next.

In some communities in Ja rule of law is delegated to warlords aka "dons",wherever and whenever the connection can be made politicians should be arrested to prevent any further "tivolies",hence the unfortunate demise of innocents who are only victims of circumstances will lessen.
The PM created the present circumstance of death and mayhem - thats proven - what do we do about him??

Wow Bruce you did... 74 dead bodies with nothing to show. I will bet you though a lot of those people were killed by men in Tivoli shooting at the police. These people were not all killed by the security forces. Wow how ironic, they said they will die for Dudus and so they did, and he is no where to be found. This is sad but ironic. With so many dead I hope we use this as tirning point to say never again. not just from the polic, but also from these area Dons. Collateral damages are too high.

There is serious under-reporting of the number of fatalities.
Note Seaga's figures of over 100 in one area alone

It is always regrettable the lost of lives but I suspect the there are some people who want to see the security forces fail but we have not. This is going to be a harsh lesson for other garrisons. Do not tolerate criminal elements.

They will certainly receive no sympathy from me, this was an armed insurrection that was planned and carried out with military precision with no regards for the lives of anyone who was in their way, this was an attack on the Soul of Jamaica. The Security forces only went in when there were no alternatives and they should be commended for showing such restraint. These illiterate elements embarrased us by going on international saying they will die for Dudus and their desire was fulfilled.

I am in a dilemma - my heart bleeds for the innocent caught up in this sordid affair, those whose only crime was to be poor and living in the "wrong"place.
I am happy that the bastion of garrisons have been brought down,if for nothing else it was as symbolic as the toppling of Saddam's statue in Iraq.
But,but.....why is bruce golding et al not incarcerated???
if there is no impeachment rule we need to quickly create one and retroactively charge him!
So much blood on his hands..

Please do not slow the rebuilding of beautiful jamaica by simply blaming the US for everything. You tell us not to believe all the news says to be true, well it goes both ways.
You would need to KNOW Americans, not just read the papers and watch the stupid television. And we are not so happy with our government right now either. If you think that just because Obama is half black it makes him great, you do not know the reality. He is spending us into debt. Most of our poor are just lazy!!!

Its no longer about dudus, it is now about Bruce Golding. Dudus is a fugitive on the run, Bruce is a corrupt politician holding on to power.
Are the people of TG too black for you Bruce?
Bruce believe mi when I say u r going to get worse than the people of tivoli gardens.
This is 3rd world leadership, failed state leadership, rogue state leadership, dictatorship, corrupted leadership.
There is no sign of good leadership coming from Bruce.
How can the people get justice?
They will!!!

It is sad, sad, sad. But given the cirumstances, I cannot feel too much pain. Because I recognize that all peaceful means of resolving the standoff were exhausted in the events that transpired on Sunday. There were no alternatives. However, if police had been able to enter Tivoli over the last decade, thugs would not have amassed arms and been able to orchestrate the mayhem that took place. Let this be a hard lesson for Jamaica.

Vaz need to go into tivoli, he usually does.
If golding did not have the power over the army and police, would he be so bold to call his people criminals? Golding you know tivoli was ur army before you became PM. Now you are PM and have a bigger army, you use it at your disposal to get the criminals.
Why did Bruce run for office? Bruce it is time to go, and sticking around to use the OPM at your disposal is becoming suspicious. You have failed Jamaica and the people of west kgn.

Something is amiss, the stories do not mesh. If it is that 73 were killed, it cannot be that all 73 were gunmen. Obviously, innocent people are included in that number. It is sad to say but they are now casualties of this war.
For a Minister of Information, Darryl Vaz never seems to know anything. How can he be saying that he in unclear if Coke is still in Jamaica.

US Gov and JA Gov- If you put your collective efforts towards building up a workable Jamaican economy then people will not feel inclined to protect a "thug" who runs an illegal business. But, if all you have is an illegal business that helps you support your family, then you will protect it. Let's start by keeping an honest portion of profits from the tourism industry inna JAMAICA and pay the tourism workers a proper wage. The youth won't pick up the gun if they can see a better option.

To my Jamaican cousins - I pray that your country will recover from ths and would continue to be beautiful andl strong. Our prayers are with you, and especially with the children.
I must appologise - I was so caught up in our elections I did not pay attention to what was happening in Jamaica until now.
Is there a fund or an organization where we can donate for the children of these areas? Please let me now.
Love you,
your Trini cousin

OK 73 killed, they were not all JDF/JCF killings many of them were murdered by their own croonies when they were too afraid to take up arms against the police. whatever the case I hope this will serve as a lesson to them, I feel no pain for them, still proud of our officers.

Okay..from 44 to 73..and it is unclear whether Dudus is in JA. Why can't the Lawyers for Dudus say where he is? Is it that they have not been in contact with him? What was the operation in Kirkland Heights for? Or was it compromised and the suspect notified before the ploice got there?

Condolences to the families of the ones that are INNOCENT in God's eyes. Well done to the military for wiping out the guilty ones.
At another stage, people have to dead for other people to survive, so they are willing to die for Dudus and I guess their wish have be granted

Unclear if Coke is still in Jamaica? So why dem go on search for him this morning?
73 and counting. Bruce should be ashamed of allowing dudus to go free. Then turn around and strike tivoli.
Bruce what good can be said of you?
27 in 2001, 73 and counting in 2010.
