AN accountant accused of conspiring with her co-worker at an insurance company to defraud the company of $2.6 million in insurance premium is scheduled to reappear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on July 12.

Facing four counts of larceny as a servant is 25-year-old Olecia Henry of Leith Road in Kingston who was employed at Caribbean Insurance Company in Kingston.

Henry, however, pleaded not guilty and her bail was extended.

According to police reports, in January this year, an executive officer at the company discovered that a client was overcharged in excess of $600,000 on his premium which was fully paid up, after the client sought information on his premium.

The client, who signed up with the company last December, was charged $961,932. 80 for his Toyota Hiace bus, but was told by the company’s underwriter service manager that his premium was $1.6 million.

An audit was reportedly done at the company and it was discovered that the company’s underwriter service manager had also collected nearly $500,000 from the client and gave him fictitious receipts while Henry had reportedly transferred excess funds from the client’s account into other client’s account.

The audit also showed that the company lost $2.6 million and that other clients had been overcharged.

The matter was reported and Henry was arrested and charged in May this year.

When the matter was brought up in court yesterday, the investigation officer told the court that the other employee is not yet arrested as she is overseas and a warrant has been issued for her arrest. In addition he also told the court that the company is now checking further to see how many of their clients were defrauded.
