Alia wins silver in 50m breaststroke at short-course worlds
MONTREAL, Canada — Jamaican swimmer Alia Atkinson finished second in the 50-metre breaststroke at the Short Course Swimming World Championships in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on Wednesday.
She took the silver medal behind American Lilly King, who copped the gold.
After winning a gold medal in the 4x50m medley relay in a record-shattering 1min 43.27sec with the United States’ Alexandra De Loof, Kelsi Worrell and Katrina Konopka — erasing the previous record of 1:44.04 set by Denmark at the 2014 short course worlds in Doha — King returned to win individual gold in the 50m breaststroke in 28.92sec.
The American got the better of world record-holder Atkinson (29.11) with fellow American Molly Hannis third in 29.58.
