ORGANISERS of the LIME Foundation 6K are giving the thumbs up for their readiness to stage the inaugural event tomorrow. The race/walk will begin at 7:00 am at Waterford High School in the Sunshine City of Portmore.

Up to late yesterday afternoon participants who had signed up online or at select LIME stores were busy collecting their numbered bibs in preparation for the big day.

Conceptualised by members of the LIME Foundation board, and under the patronage of Lady Allen, wife of the governor general, the aim of the 2014 LIME Foundation 6K ‘Run for the Children’ is to raise funds to assist in the purchase of a fluoroscope for the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The fluoroscope is key to the early detection of kidney disease. Presently, there are no such machines in the public health care system. Chairman of the LIME Foundation Errol Miller is excited about the flurry of entries that came in over the past week when the decision was made to extend the registration deadline to allow more persons to show they care for the nation’s children.

“We wanted to make sure that every last person who feels passionate about supporting the cause — whether by running, walking or simply registering their support — gets the opportunity to sign up for this important event.

The extension helped us to achieve that and we are pleased with the level of support,” said Miller. He promised a fun-filled morning with activities for the entire family and emphasised that participants are welcome to walk the entire course and go at their own pace should they feel the need to do so.

Additionally, the event will feature a 2K bicycle race for youngsters, with the specific intention of helping to engender, from an early age, a culture of social responsibility while also encouraging physical activity and the development of an active, healthy lifestyle.

There will also be a Kiddies’ Village for the young ones to play while their parents complete the 6K course. Participants will set off from the starter’s line at Waterford High south along Portmore Parkway towards the Portmore Mall then back on to Portmore Parkway where they will enter Portmore Drive, then head north on Agusta Drive, east on to Passage Fort Drive where they will make the sprint for home at the finish line at Waterford High.

The event is receiving strong support from a number of corporate companies that have joined hands with LIME to help make it possible.
