Basil Waite freed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former People’s National Party Senator Basil Waite was this afternoon freed of a corruption charge in the Corporate Area Parish Court after the prosecution indicated to the judge that they were unable to proceed with the case based on the evidence.
Waite, former advisor to Local Government Minister Noel Arscott, was arrested and charged by the Major Organised and Anti-Corruption Task Force on October 8, 2014 for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He was accused of contacting a businessman who was a witness in a corruption case in which a policeman was charged on April 16, 2014.
It was alleged that Waite requested a meeting with the businessman in a bid to assist the policeman.
