His apology, which was disseminated to the media today, came after the People’s National Party (PNP) issued a statement on Friday, strongly condemning what it described as “unethical and false comments” he made regarding Simpson Miller’s health.
The PNP said in its statement that Blythe has not personally examined Simpson Miller in the capacity of a medical doctor and therefore is “reckless to make any declaration on the health of Comrade Simpson Miller”.
The party also demanded that Blythe apologise to Simpson Miller for his “un-comradely comments forthwith”.

In his apology, Blythe said: “Having seen the recent video interview with Comrade Party Leader Portia Simpson Miller, I subsequently made some public comments on her well-being.
“On reflection, I have realised that much of those comments were inappropriate.
“I am therefore withdrawing those comments and apologise unconditionally and unreservedly to Comrade Simpson Miller, members of her family and all others who, understandably, are offended by my remarks.” he said.
