British engineer nabbed with ganja at NMIA
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division arrested and charged a British man for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston yesterday.
Charged is 41-year-old Desmond Winter, telecom and information technology engineer of Marvell House, South London in England.
Reports are that about 12:10 pm Winter was at the security check in to board a flight destined for London, Gatwick when he was searched.
During the search of his luggage 38 rectangular shaped parcels were found, each containing compressed vegetable matter resembling ganja, weighing a total of 28 pounds.
The ganja has an estimated street value of J$142,000.
Winter was taken into custody and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and attempting to export ganja. He is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Thursday, April 13.
