By-election for Greater Portmore North set for Monday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) a short while ago announced that a by-election will be held in the Greater Portmore North electoral division on Monday.
The vacancy was triggered by the sudden death of People’s National Party (PNP) Councillor Michael ‘Fisher’ Edwards, who died on January 6.
Edwards, who is said to have died from a stroke, represented the Greater Portmore North Division in the Portmore Municipal Council since December 2007.
He was returned for a third term on November 28 last year when he defeated the Jamaica Labour Party’s Ann Marie Lewis, polling 1,628 votes to Lewis’ 919 votes.
The EOJ said polls will open at 7:00 am and close at 5:00 pm, after which a results centre will be set up at the official counting centre located at the Marine Park Community Centre.
