Cop busted in alleged sex-case extortion of teacher
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Another policeman has been arrested on suspicions that he breached the Corruption Prevention Act.
He’s the third police officer to be arrested by detectives from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) in less than a week.
The policeman, who is attached to a Corporate Area division, was arrested on Thursday during a sting operation in Kingston.
Allegations are that the lawman, purporting to be a sergeant attached to another Corporate Area Division, made contact with a teacher, claiming that he is investigating a case involving breaches of the Sexual Offences Act which was reported against the teacher. The Policeman reportedly solicited $200,000 from the teacher in order to dispose of the alleged case file.
MOCA was alerted and a sting operation carried out, during which a courier who was sent to collect the money was detained. Further investigation by the team led to the arrest of the policeman.
A case file is now being prepared for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling on the matter. His name is being withheld until he’s charged.
