Cumberland High School to get new principal
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cumberland High School in Portmore, St Catherine is to have a new principal come September, according to the education ministry.
The ministry told OBSERVER ONLINE this afternoon that current Principal Michael Brydson will be retiring. The ministry did not provide the reasons for his retirement.
The Portmore school has been in the news recently after classes were suspended when a teacher was threatened by members of a group which accompanied a parent of a grade 9 student to the school following an incident involving the principal.
The student reportedly broke the rear windscreen of Brydson’s SUV after he scolded her.
Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid said on Saturday that the ministry will be working closely with Cumberland High School to ease the strained relationship between students and staff.
