ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The police have imposed a curfew in sections of Quarry Hill in Spanish Town, St Catherine. The curfew began at 6:00 pm yesterday and will remain in effect until 6:00 pm tomorrow. 

The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:

• North along the canal bank between Villa Palm Housing Scheme, Grace Kennedy Factory and Quarry Hill

• South along the toll road from Salt Pond Road (Dunbeholden Main Road) to Bernard Lodge Main Road

• East along the Bernard Lodge Main Road from Highway 2000 to the canal

• West along Dunbeholden Main Road from Highway 2000 to Grace Kennedy Factory

Director of Corporate Communication Unit of the JCF Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay this morning informed OBSERVER ONLINE that the curfew is part of the ongoing policing response to the recent upsurge of violence in the Spanish Town area.

The police have reported that there is ongoing internal gang feud between the Tesha Miller and the ‘Blackman’ factions of the notorious Spanish Town-based Klansman Gang that has resulted in the deaths of at least 77 people since April.

Superintendent Lindsay explained that the lawmen are working with information available to them to apprehend criminals linked to the feud.

During the hours of the curfew, the police said people within the boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorised in writing by the member of the security forces who is in charge of enforcing the curfew.
