Downtown family park
Mayor of Kingston Dr Angela Brown Burke (7th left) is assisted by students of the St Hugh’s and Wolmer’s Prep schools as she breaks ground for a family park inside the St William Grant Park in downtown Kingston recently. Also sharing in the moment are Councillor Karl Blake (left) of the Greenwich Town Division; Paulette Mitchell (sixth right), project manager of the CHASE Fund; Councillor Eugene Kelly (fourth right) of the Whitfield Town Division; and Denzil Thorpe (third right), permanent secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Community Development. According to the mayor, the idea of park, of which the CHASE Fund is a major sponsor, was born out of the necessity to have a facility in downtown Kingston so families living in close proximity wouldn’t need to go very far to enjoy a world-class interactive park with distinctively thematic activity and play areas that are ‘attention-grabbing’ yet educational.
