Fans react to Miss Universe result
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Dailymail newspaper headlined its coverage of the 2014 Miss Universe Competition “Fury at Miss Universe result: Audience boos as Colombian takes the crown – but was Jamaican runner-up robbed of title by her Halle Berry hairstyle and tributes to Bob Marley and Usain Bolt?”
The article states that, on Sunday, 22-year-old Colombian Paulina Vega was crowned Miss Universe 2014, sparking “controversy” as crowd favourite, 22-year-old Kaci Fennell of Jamaica, copped the placed fifth.
“Instead of the usual cheering, the audience erupted into boos of disapproval as favourite-to-win Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell only made it to fifth place,” the Dailymail said.
It further reported that shortly after Fennell left the stage in the 63rd annual contest, her name began trending on Twitter with the hashtag #MissJamaicaShouldHaveWon.
According to the article, fans claimed that Fennell was denied the Miss Universe title because of her unconventional style, pixie-cut hairstyle, Caribbean confidence and reference to Usain Bolt and Bob Marley as well as her non traditional answers to the questions asked.
Fennell was a favourite to win after topping the Facebook Miss Universe Fanpage Poll.
