Funeral service underway for former Cabinet Minister Dean Peart
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Hundreds of mourners are now gathered at the Kendal Conference Centre in Manchester for the funeral service of former Cabinet Minister and People’s National Party (PNP) stalwart Dean Peart, who died last month at age 77.
Among those in attendance are PNP President Mark Golding, Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, several Members of Parliament, former Cabinet Ministers and PNP stalwarts.
Relatives, including Peart’s brother and former Speaker of the House Michael Peart, are also among those in attendance.
Dean Peart led at various times the ministries of labour, environment and lands, and local government. He is also a former mayor of Mandeville.
He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Manchester North Western in 1989, and won the constituency for the PNP five times on the trot, before retiring in the lead-up to the December 2011 elections.
