Former Lucea mayor pleads not guilty to corruption charges

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former mayor of Lucea, Shernette Haughton, today pleaded not guilty to breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

Haughton and 25 police officers were brought before the court on Friday for reportedly failing to declare their assets.

Charged with failing to file statutory declarations for 2012 and 2013, Haughton pleaded not guilty.

She is to return to court on July 19.
