Gleaner reporter dies at hospital
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Assignment co-ordinator at the Jamaica Gleaner, Glenroy Sinclair, died at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) on Saturday.
Sinclair, 50, had been the newspaper’s crime reporter for several years, before being appointed to the assignment desk. He started out at the newspaper at age 17 as a messenger. He also covered a few sports assignments, including go-kart racing.
OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that Sinclair was found slouched over his desk in the newspaper office, after suffering what is believed to have been either a heart attack or a stroke.
A spokesman for the family said it could have been both.
Sinclair was found by co-workers but when he failed to respond to them, the company’s nurse was called to help.
He was eventually wheeled out of the office and taken to the nearby KPH, where he later succumbed.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
