Health Ministry bars travel from yellow fever-affected countries without vaccination proof
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Health Ministry said today that people travelling from yellow fever-affected countries will not be allowed into the island without proof of vaccination.
This follows the detention of several Chinese who recently arrived at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay for failure to show proof of yellow fever vaccination.
“Jamaica, like several other countries require proof of vaccination from travellers coming from yellow fever endemic countries, and those currently experiencing active transmission,” a ministry release said this afternoon.
The ministry release said in light of the current yellow fever outbreak in Angola and ongoing transmission in Brazil, Peru China, Kenya, and the Congo, it is reiterating the importance of people getting vaccinated and showing proof when travelling to and from affected countries.
It said yellow fever vaccines are available and administered at the Comprehensive Health Center in Kingston on Fridays from 8:30am – 4:00pm.
Vaccines are also available at the Montego Bay Type 5 Health Centre in St James every first Monday and Wednesday and every third Monday and Thursday during clinic hours. The cost is $1,500 per vaccine. It is also advised that the vaccines be done at least 10 days prior to travel.
