JLP candidate wins by one vote in Toll Gate Division magisterial recount
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The magisterial recount for the Toll Gate Division in Clarendon South Western was completed on Wednesday, with the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate retaining the seat by a margin of one vote.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) said in a news release that the JLP’s Radcliffe McDonald polled 1,511 votes while the People’s National Party candidate Godfrey Knight received 1,510.
The one-vote margin is the same as declared by the returning officer after the final count.
The EOJ also said that counting did not get under way for the Moneague Division in St Ann, as a decision is to be made by the magistrate on whether the application was filed within the statutory time frame.
The proceedings continue tomorrow, Thursday, December 8, at the St Ann Resident Magistrates’ Court, the EOJ said.
Yesterday, the magisterial recount for the Llandewey Division in St Thomas Western was completed, with the People’s National Party candidate, Edwin Marr retaining the seat by a margin of two votes.
