WATCH: Man injured in shootout with police in Mandeville, firearms seized
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Police have confirmed that a large cache of firearms was seized following a reported shootout with an armed suspect near the New Green roundabout in Mandeville Sunday afternoon.
Preliminary reports are that about 1:30 pm, police intercepted a Toyota Premio motor car a few metres from the roundabout, and the driver reportedly fled from the vehicle, opening fire on cops. During the exchange of gunfire, the man was shot and injured. He reportedly ran before collapsing near the hard shoulder on the Winston Jones Highway. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Residents say a woman and two children were taken from the suspect’s vehicle unharmed.
With the scene cordoned off, motorists have been diverted to use alternative routes through Kendal Road, Sugar Research, Ingleside, Hanbury and Caledonia Road to Williamsfield via Royal Flat.
