JLP confident of victory in St Mary Western
ST MARY, Jamaica – The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) says it will unseat the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Joylan Silvera in the next general election.
At a mass meeting held in Gayle on Tuesday evening, February 2, several speakers on the platform said the present Member of Parliament has not been addressing the needs of the people of St Mary Western. Referring to Silvera as a “bench warmer”, the JLP members say they will be claiming back the constituency.
Hundreds of JLP supporters gathered in Gayle Tuesday evening following an earlier tour of St Mary and St Ann. The tours were led by party leader Andrew Holness for St Mary and Audley Shaw in St Ann.
Member of Parliament for Kingston West Desmond McKenzie urged voters to go out and vote because many people stayed away from the poll during the last general election.
“Some of you stayed away from the poll the last election… Some of you never take it serious enough. If you allow them to trick you wid the money…One belly full can’t hold you fi the rest of yu life,” McKenzie said in his call for voters to go out and vote on February 25.
