JLP senator warns against push to oust Holness
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Senator Tom Tavares-Finson has issued a statement urging members of Parliament in the party to direct their energy against the governing People’s National Party instead of pushing to have party leader Andrew Holness replaced.
The statement in full:
The members of parliament who suggest that Andrew Holness should be replaced as leader of opposition should recall that Andrew Holness was decisively elected as leader of the Jamaica Labour Party at conference 2013.
The delegates who elected him elected him as leader of the party, expecting quite reasonably that he would occupy the post of Leader of the Opposition until an election is held, as has been the custom and practice.
It is apparent that these delegates will not accept a “Gordon House coup” to thwart their will and replace Andrew Holness, thereby achieving an end that they themselves have already rejected at conference.
The members of parliament need to direct their energy against the People’s National Party (PNP) to ensure that Jamaica has an opportunity to elect a Government that can return stability and growth to the country.
