MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica (JIS) — President of the St James Lay Magistrates Association, Claudette Bryan, is reminding Justices of the Peace (JPs) to remain true to the position they hold, and to carry out their tasks with integrity, professionalism and fairness.

Speaking at the association’s second quarterly church service at the Calvary Baptist Church, in Montego Bay, St James, on Sunday, March 13, Bryan emphasised that JPs should remain resolute to the rules and responsibilities which are attached to the office.

“A Justice of the Peace is a person of unquestionable integrity, who seeks to promote and protect the rights of individuals and helps to give justice to everyone. This is indeed an office of honour, which means an office of honesty, integrity and trustworthiness,” she said.

Bryan implored JPs to shun any notion of accepting rewards for their service, which is free to all Jamaicans.

“We must give good service to the community and the wider Jamaica, and be able to interact and communicate with people of all levels. The office of the Justice of the Peace is a voluntary one and therefore, we do not charge for the services we offer,” she pointed out.
