Jamaican sentenced in Florida for trafficking women
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Jamaican man was sentenced to 27 years’ imprisonment in a Florida court on Monday.
Thirty-seven-year-old Damion St Patrick Baston was convicted on 21 charges for trafficking women from the Gold Coast of Australia to Miami.
Baston has been accused of running a sex trade business, fraud, coercion, importation of an alien for prostitution, transportation for prostitution, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering.
He knowingly recruited and enticed his victims, knowing that brutal force and coercion would be used to make them engage in prostitution, UK media reports said.
He is appealing his conviction and sentence.
