Norman Manley High take control of Zone C after second Manning Cup win
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Norman Manley High grabbed hold of Zone C in the ISSA Manning Cup with a 3-1 win over Edith Dalton James on Saturday and jumped to the top with maximum six points.
With the top three teams from each zone advancing to the second round of the newly formatted Manning Cup, Norman Manley has one foot in next round as they hold a two-point advantage over Kingston Technical High who defeated Ardenne High 2-1 to be in second spot on four points.
Denham Town edged Pembroke Hall High 3-2 and joined Edith Dalton James on three points while Donald Quarrie High remained on one point after getting a rest day on Saturday. Ardenne High are pointless after losing both their games.
Meanwhile in Zone A, former champions Camperdown High also made it two wins, beating Ascot High 2-1 to be on top with six points. Holy Trinity High remained in second spot on three points despite their game against Jonathan Grant being postponed.
Greater Portmore High moved to third spot with a 4-2 win over Waterford High. Jonathan Grant and Ascot High are on one point each.
In Zone B, surprise package St Mary’s College surged to the top with six points following their 3-0 whipping of Papine High. Innswood High climbed into second spot on four points with a 6-0 mauling of Clan Carthy High while Jose Marti moved into third spot on three points with a 2-0 win over Penwood High, who slipped to fourth also on three points.
The competition continues on Tuesday with nine games.
