Man accused of smuggling goods from company in garbage bins
A former employee of a paint shop was last week hauled before the court following allegations that he stole over $1 million worth of raw painting material, after removing the product from the company and hiding it in the garbage.
Kimani Walcott, 33, tinter of Whitehall, Kingston was, however, offered $300,000 bail when he appeared in court last Friday before Judge Pettigrew-Collins.
The court heard that between November and December 2016, Walcott stole the material from the company.
The court heard that a witness reported that he would visit the company in the wee hours of the morning, around 3:00 am, and would remove items from the garbage bins, which he had placed there earlier in the day.
The theft was, however, discovered after the complainant saw some items in the yard and made enquires about them.
However, Walcott’s lawyer, Davion Vassell told the court that the allegations were “absolutely absurd” and that all the police has is the say-so of a security guard.
He also argued that on the day the items were found his client was not at work, and questioned why the witness did not report the actions of his client.
Following Vassell’s application, Walcott was granted bail on condition that he reports to the Constant Spring Police Station on Mondays and Wednesdays and return to court on March 6.
