Man begs for leniency for knife-wielding babymother
A man who was stabbed in his back by the mother of his child pleaded with the judge for mercy when she appeared in court.
“I am just asking for leniency,” the man told Judge Ellis when his child’s mother, Lashawn Gordon, appeared in court in custody.
“I am no longer interested in the case because my daughter miss her,” the complainant said.
He then explained that the five-year-old child had been living with Gordon in St Catherine but that he had to move her to Kingston, and he doesn’t want her to attend school in the community where he lives.
But the judge told him that the matter is not a case that he can just discontinue, as he almost lost his life.
“This lady stabbed you in the back, the daughter would have missed you,” she said. “The daughter came this close to almost losing you.”
“I am just begging for her,” he continued.
“This is not a matter of whether you are interested or not, she did something that could have cost you your life. The question is what should her punishment be,” the judge said.
The complainant, in reply, told the judge that Gordon needs psychological evaluation because she does things at times that are not “called for” before she realises her mistakes.
The judge, in the end, told the complainant that she will decide on Monday what she will do with Gordon, who was remanded.
“Take time to think, it’s not so light, you almost kill the man,” she said.
