Man gets 45 days for stealing ackees
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A young man who is accused of stealing 11 1/2 dozen of ackees from a woman’s ackee tree at her home in Kingston was last week sentenced to 45 days in prison.
Omar Parkins was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to praedial larceny in court on Thursday.
Resident Magistrate Vaughn Smith sentenced Parkins after the complainant told the court that he always stole her ackees.
“Every time I catch him, and he keeps coming back, he does not ask,” she said.
RM Smith in handing down the sentence said, “ A fine would not deter you, you seem like you need a sharp, short shock.”
Parkins was also accused of breaking a window at the house of the complainant’s neighbour. He will return to court to answer a charge of malicious destruction.
