Man held with 17 pounds of ganja at NMIA
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A Jamaican was arrested and charged on Tuesday after he was held with 17 pounds of compressed ganja as he attempted to board a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston.
Charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act is 28-year-old Michael Preddie of Fairfield district, Spur Tree in Manchester.
Reports from the NMIA Police Post are that about 9:16 pm, officers were carrying out checks with the assistance of a narcotics canine when they were alerted to a suitcase.
The accused was reportedly summoned and asked to identify his luggage. It was searched and the ganja allegedly found.
The police say the estimated street value of the ganja is J$102,000.
Preddie is scheduled to appear before the St Andrew Parish Court on June 15.
