MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Deputy Superintendent of Police Marlene Bailey, who is in charge of the Community Safety and Security Branch in the Manchester police division, said that the parish is in good stead for today’s nomination day activities.

“I would say we are ready,” she told the regular monthly meeting of the Manchester Parish Council yesterday.

Bailey said that the police will be out in their numbers.

She advised that if councillor candidates for the upcoming local government election decide to have political-related tours and marches leading up to election, they should inform the police so they can be alert for any eventualities.

The deputy superintendent was responding to a question from Mayor of Mandeville Brenda Ramsay about order in the parish.

Ramsay, who is also a People’s National Party councillor for the Bellefield Division in Manchester Central, will not be contesting the Local Government Election.

She has spent 18 years actively involved in local governance and was recently recognised by the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica for her service.

Yesterday, Ramsay presided over her last meeting as mayor and chairman of the Manchester Parish Council.

However, she told those present that she is merely “transitioning” not “retiring”.

The nomination day activities across the island will be from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm at selected areas within constituencies.
