Miss Philippines is Miss World 2013
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Miss World 2013 is Megan Young of the Philippines.
She was crowned in Bali, Indonesia Saturday morning bringing the curtain down on three weeks of competition and controversy in the predominantly Muslim country.
The first-runner up is Marine Lorphelin of France, while Ghana’s Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter copped the second runner-up spot.
Jamaica’s Gina Hargitay made it into the top ten but was unable to make it through to the final six.
Miss Philippines placed in the final six after winning the People’s Choice Award.
The Miss World pageant this year came under pressure from hardliners in Indonesia with numerous protests against its staging. As a result the organisers dropped the traditional bikini judging section replacing it with a Sarong category.
