NSWMA gets six new garbage trucks
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) says it has received six of 28 budgeted compactor garbage trucks from the Government.
The authority, in a release today, said that two trucks each will be sent to three of its four regional offices.
NSWMA added that over the past months, the regional entities have been grappling with non-collection and partial collection, especially in residential communities.
Regional operations manager for North-eastern Parks and Markets (NEPM) Tracey Fakhourie was quoted as saying: “with these two garbage compactors, the NEPM region will be on the path to improving its service delivery due to the ability to make timely and full collection of solid waste from communities where residents are in backlog.” NEPM serves Portland, St Mary and St Ann.
Edward Muir, regional operations manager for the Southern Parks and Markets (serving the parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth), expressed similar sentiments.
The 2017 Renault garbage-compactor trucks are valued at approximately $20,060,778.90 each.
