KINGSTON, Jamaica — New World Bank Director for the Caribbean, Tahseen Sayed, will travel to Jamaica this week to meet Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Finance Minister Audley Shaw, as well as key representatives from the private sector, civil society and the youth to discuss the World Bank’s engagement in support to the country’s pro-growth reforms and efforts to improve social and climate resilience.

Sayed’s mission, according to a release from the World Bank, also coincides with the visit of Christine Hogan, Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean at the World Bank Board.

Accompanied by Galina Sotirova, World Bank country manager in the country, and Judith Green, International Finance Corporation (IFC) representative, Sayed will also visit some inner-city communities in the Kingston Metropolitan area that benefited from improved services and targeted crime and violence prevention activities financed by the World Bank; some greenhouses in the parish of St Ann funded by the Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) project; and an entrepreneurship training for young Jamaicans.

During her first visit to the country, in the context of the upcoming World Bank and the International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings in Washington DC, Tahseen Sayed will reaffirm the World Bank’s commitment to continued support the government’s effort to promote sustainable growth for all Jamaicans.
