New term off to bumpy start for some schools
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Ministry of Education reported that while most of the country’s nearly 1000 public schools were off to a smooth start this morning, there were some matters that presented challenges.
According to a release from the ministry, police were this morning summoned to the Penwood High School after the gate was padlocked in protest over employment of ancillary staff outside of the community.
Meanwhile a serious water situation threatened closure of Carron Hall High in St Mary. According to the release, the National Water Commission (NWC) will make arrangements to truck water there this afternoon.
Similar arrangements were made for the Exchange All Age in St Ann after authorities reported that there was no water at the institution.
The ministry also said reports of a student being turned away at the Happy Grove High due to non-payment of auxiliary fee was investigated and addressed.
