One day to income tax filing deadline
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding business owners, self-employed people, partnerships, companies and employed individuals with other sources of income or multiple employments, that they have until Saturday to file final income tax returns for the year of assessment 2016 and estimated returns for year of assessment 2017.
The TAJ said that there is still an opportunity to avoid the $5000 monthly penalty charged for late returns.
It also suggested that tax filers conduct their transactions online via the TAJ Tax Portal or by making use of Saturday openings from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at select tax offices to avoid the expected higher than normal last minute rush. The following locations will be open tomorrow:
•Constant Spring
•Montego Bay
•Spanish Town
•May Pen
•Mandeville
•Savanna-la-mar
•St Ann’s Bay
The Portmore Tax Office will continue its regular Saturday opening.
