Overwhelming registration for secondary and tertiary teams at 2017 Sigma Run
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Organisers of the 19th staging of the Sagicor Sigma Corporate run, set for Sunday February 19, say that over 500 high school students and over 900 university and college students have entered to participate.
“We introduced a high school and a college competition last year with the winning team in each category walking away with $50,000. The students came out in their numbers and supported the cause so we are continuing on that momentum. We personally went into many of these schools to urge even more teams to come and ‘run for the fun or donate for the cause,” said Ingrid Card, Vice President, Group Marketing at Sagicor.
According to a news release by Sagicor today, a total of 25 high schools and 32 college teams have registered for the charity road race so far. They include Dinthill Technical, Cumberland High, Waterford High, Kingston College and May Pen Primary, to name a few.
For the 19th staging of the charity event, cash prizes of $50,000 will once again accompany the trophy for the largest college and high school groups.
In its 18 years of existence, the Sigma Corporate Run has raised more than $200 million, to support numerous charities across the island. With a target of $60 million for 2017, the Bethlehem Home for abandoned children and babies and the Mandeville and Spanish Town Hospital Paediatric units will receive extensive support from the proceeds of this year’s run.
Donations to support this year’s causes are also being invited, and can be made via pledges. Donations can be made to the Sagicor Foundation’s Sigma Run 2017 via www.generosity.com. Donors may also make cheques payable to Sigma Run 2017, with deposits at any Sagicor Bank location to account number 5502326386.
