Pedal cyclist killed by bus in Santa Cruz
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — A pedal cyclist is dead after being hit by a bus in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, early Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as Willis Green, a welder of Grosmond, Braes River, St Elizabeth.
He marked his 58th birthday on December 3.
Corporal Albert Simpson who heads the Santa Cruz traffic division told OBSERVER ONLINE that the driver of the bus has been warned for prosecution pending further investigations.
Police reports are that at about 6:20 am the pedal cyclist – travelling east to west – was about to turn right on to Pagon Drive (popularly referred to locally as back road), when he was hit from behind by the bus which was carrying schoolchildren.
Simpson said early investigations suggest that the bus was travelling at “high speed”.
Green was pronounced dead at hospital.
